The base ̄ow and storm ̄ow hydrology of a precambrian shield headwater peatland
نویسندگان
چکیده
A hydrological investigation was conducted in a small headwater peatland located in the Experimental Lakes Area, north-western Ontario, Canada, to determine the subsurface and surface ̄ow paths within the peatland, and between the peatland and an adjacent forested upland during base ̄ow and storm ̄ow conditions. Distinct zones of groundwater recharge and discharge were observed within the peatland. These zones are similar to those found in much larger ̄ow systems even though the peatland was only in ̄uenced by local groundwater ̄ow. Groundwater emerging in seeps and ̄owing beneath the peatland sustained the surface wetness of the peatland and maintained a constant base ̄ow. The response of the peatland stream to summer rain events was controlled by peatland water table position when the basin was dry and antecedent moisture storage on the uplands when the basin was wet. The magnitude and timing of peak runo during wet conditions were controlled by the degree of hydrological connectivity between the surrounding upland terrain and the peatland. # 1998 John Wiley Sons, Ltd. Seasonal Isotope Hydrology of Three Appalachian Forest Catchments
Seasonal oxygen-18 variations in precipitation, throughfall, soil water, spring ̄ow and stream base ̄ow were analysed to compare the hydrology of two forested basins in West Virginia (WV) (34 and 39 ha) and one in Pennsylvania (PA) (1134 ha). Precipitation and throughfall were measured with funnel/bottle samplers, soil water with ceramic-cup suction lysimeters and spring ̄ow/base ̄ows by grab and...

A wild®re in an aorested research catchment presented the rare opportunity to compare the hydrological eects of wild®re with the eects of clearfelling in the same catchment in the Jonkershoek Valley, in the south-western Western Cape Province of South Africa. The timber plantation, which occupies 57% of the 2 km catchment, had been clearfelled and re-planted to Pinus radiata roughly ®ve year...

متن کاملImpacts of Dehydroacetic Acid and Ozonated Water on Aspergillus flavus Colonization and Aflatoxin B1 Accumulation in Iranian Pistachio
Background: Aflatoxins (AFs) are the most prevalent carcinogenic mycotoxins, produced mainly by Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus. The general purpose of the present study was to use Dehydroacetic Acid (DHA) and Ozonated Water (OW) to control A. flavus growth and accumulation of Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in Iranian pistachios. Methods: Three treatment pistachio groups were separately immersed ...
